Abstract

1,080,570. Handles for boxes. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 2, 1964 [Dec. 5, 1963], No. 48998/64. Heading B8P. [Also in Division E2] A handle 3 for portable equipment is hingedly connected to the case 1 by a hinge pin 9 which is rotatably supported in the fixed part of the hinge 7. A resilient friction element 13 is arranged beneath the head 11 of the pin 9 and a spacing sleeve 15, of sufficient length to allow axial movement of the limb 5 of the handle, surrounds the protruding part of the pin 9. A leaf spring 17 riveted to the end of the pin 9 and located at its free end in a recess 19 in the handle couples the arm to the pin and applies a force substantially parallel to the axis of the pin to the inside of the limb 5. The friction element hinge arrangement may be on one or both of the limbs 5 of the handle 3 and allows for manufacturing tolerances between the handle and the metal strips 7 on the case 1 to be accommodated.
