Abstract

1,080,132. Delay lines. THERMIONIC PRODUCTS (ELECTRONICS) Ltd. Jan. 15, 1965 [Jan. 16, 1964], No. 2066/64. Heading H3U. [Also in Division G5] A delay line comprises a number of seriesconnected windings 2 surrounding magnetic cores 1 and capacitors 3 shunting the windings, the cores 1 having a substantially rectangular hysteresis loop. In order to avoid distortion of a stepped voltage function as it travels down the line from the input 5, each capacitor may be shunted by a resistor 6. The line is intended for successively switching the separate magnetic circuits of a multi-channel transducer head as disclosed in Specification 1,020,422, the cores 1 and windings 2 serving as magnetic switches or flux gates. Fig. 4 shows a single magnetic switching circuit comprising polepieces 9, 10 separated by a non-magnetic gap 11 and having interposed therebetween an annular core 12 and winding 13, this core and winding corresponding to a core 1 and winding 2 of Fig. 1. Recording and replay windings 14 and 15 surround the polepieces 9 and 10, the magnetic circuit formed by the polepieces and core 12 normally being interrupted by the magnetic state of the latter. Upon energization of the winding 13 by the switching pulse which passes down the delay line the magnetic state of the core 12 is reversed to permit a momentary flow of flux through the polepieces and rendering operative the recording or play-back function. A multi-channel transducer head is described with reference to Figs. 5, 6 (not shown).
