Abstract
1,142,726. Magnetic recording &c. heads. AMPEX CORP. 6 June, 1966 [8 June, 1965], No. 25049/66. Heading G5R. A head 10 comprises a magnetic core 40, 41 having a front non-magnetic gap 11 between two facing arms of the core, these arms having portions of a smaller cross-sectional area than the remainder of the core so that they provide a higher reluctance region on which windings 13 are carried. These windings are arranged in series combination. A rear gap is also provided. The head is so arranged that the magnetic circuit associated with windings 13 is substantially excluded from the rear gap. In a modification shown in Fig. 6, a winding 55 is carried on one of the facing arms of a head 50 and is coupled in series with the principal winding 54. A ferrite slab 52 provides a magnetic shunt across the rear gap region. These heads may be used for transducing television tapes, Fig. 5 (not shown) or in digital recording systems.
