Abstract

1,079,829. Edge connecter for printed circuit boards. AMP Inc. May 19, 1966 [June 12, 19651, No. 22323/66. Heading H2E. An edge connector comprises a contactcarrying block 1 and a frame member 6 which has a pair of upstanding grooved guide members 12 for receiving a printed circuit panel. The block 1 snap-fits into the frame 6 by means of engaging grooves 5 and projections 9, the block being of a thermosetting plastics material, preferably phenolic resin, and the frame being of a thermoplastic material, preferably polyethylene. The contacts are moulded in the body 1 and are in the form of ridged blades 4, preferably arranged in two rows for engaging opposite faces of the printed circuit panel. A cap member 17, which is slotted to engage the upper edge of the panel, snap-fits into projections 14 of the guides 12, and a rib 15 and a groove 16 formed on the outer edges of the respective guides enable several units to be fitted together. The frame 6 may be screwed to a mounting panel which is apertured for passage of terminal tags 3 of the contacts 4.
