Abstract

1,079,642. Cam-operated switches. CARR FASTENER CO. Ltd. April 9, 1965 [May 28, 1964], No. 22122/64. Heading H2B. In a rotary switch of the kind comprising a movable contact adapted to be moved relatively to a fixed contact 9 by a rotor 7, the movable contact comprises an arm 1 formed of metal strip fixed at one end 4 and adapted to bend about that end when engaged by the rotor 7, a portion of the strip being cut and bent outwardly to form a resilient tongue 6 having a free end and capable of movement relatively to the remainder of the arm 1 so that any excess pressure transmitted by the rotor 7 to the arm 1 will be absorbed by the tongue 6 moving relatively to the arm 1. A switch may be built up from a number of units with a common operating shaft (11), each unit comprising a rotor disc and a pair of movable contacts, one on each side of the rotor, the cam surface on the rotor being such that the movable contact is moved from one fixed contact (9) to a central " off " position and to another fixed contact (12).
