Abstract

The invention comprises linear heterocyclic polymers containing at least two different multivalent 5 or 6-membered heterocyclic units occurring in regularly ordered sequence in the chain, and having interposed between each of the hererocyclic units a multivalent hydrocarbo unit. The polymers are obtained by reacting a monomer containing at least one heterocyclic ring and at least two reactive functional groups with another monomer containing at least two reactive functional groups and may or may not contain heterocyclic rings, additional heterocyclic rings being formed during the polymerization. In examples polymers are obtained by reacting pyromellitic dianhydride with 2, 5-bis(p-aminophenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole, with 2,5 - bis(m - aminophenyl) - 1,3,4 - oxadiazole, with 3,5 - bis(m - aminophenyl) - 4-phenyl - 1,2,4 - triazole, with m - bis(4 - p-aminophenylthiazole - 2 - yl - benzene), by reacting 2,5 - bis(3,4 - diaminophenyl) - 1,3,4-oxadiazole with diphenyl isophthalate and with sebacic acid, by reacting 2,5-bis(m-carbohydrazinophenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole with N,N1-diphenyl - isophthalimidoyl chloride, by reacting N,N1 - bis(m - carbohydrazinophenyl) hydrazide with N,N1-diphenylisophthalimidoyl chloride, and by reacting 3,31-diaminobenzidine with 2,5 - bis(m - carboxyphenyl) - 1,3,4 - oxadiazole.
