Abstract

Travelling waves are set up in a flexible belt 5, which is fixed at its ends, to convey material from a hopper 1 to a hopper 4. As shown in Fig. 1, the belt 5 rests on rollers 7, mounted on a driven endless chain 10, and is depressed between the rollers by the heaps of material 6. In a second embodiment, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown), the belt 5 tests on forks (17) connected by rods (18) to collars (19) around eccentrics (20) on a shaft (21). Each fork has a long arm (23) extending through a pivoted guide (24). The eccentrics (20) are mounted on the shaft (21) in such a way that, on rotation of the shaft, each fork moves out of phase with the adjacent forks by a. constant amount whereby a travelling waveform is produced in the belt 5. In a modification (not shown), the connecting rods pivoted on the eccentrics are replaced by rods driven by cams.
