Abstract
The invention comprises a magnesium aluminate silicate hydrate gel, containing 20-28% by weight Al2O3 and 40-50% MgO. The antacid compound of the invention may be prepared by adding an alkali metal hydroxide solution containing sodium silicate to an aqueous solution of an aluminium salt (e.g. sulphate) the mole ratio Al2O3:Na2O being 1:8 to 1:20 and the mole ratio Al2O3:SiO2 being 1:1.2 to 1:1.6, and stirring the resulting suspension of a sodium aluminium silicate in a sodium aluminate solution with an aqueous magnesium salt (e.g. sulphate) solution, the mole ratio Al2O3:MgO being 1:3 to 1:4 to give a precipitate which is filtered off, washed and dried, e.g. at 65-95 DEG C.
