A machine for distributing powdered or granular material comprises a rotatable roller having a soft resilient surface which is movable towards or away from an outlet of a hopper by means of a lever 6 pivoted on a bolt 7 and clamped in adjusted position by means of a nut 12. The roller co-operates with curved extensions of the bottom of the hopper which may consist of plates or castings lined with stainless steel. The hopper may be shaped to receive, as a snug fit, a carton or container of material to be dispensed.
