Abstract
1,078,938. Steering gear. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-G.m.b.H. Nov. 11, 1964 [Nov. 12, 1963], No. 45919/64. Heading B7V. Securing means for the prevention of turning of a ship's rudder motor when carried by the rudder head comprises a pin-like member 4 attached to the ship's hull which bears upon a cantilever member connected to the rudder head, such that for normal operation the moment of force acts at a greater distance from the base 5 of member 4 than at exceptional loads when the distance is reduced. As shown, member 4 passes through slots 13 and 12 in platform 2 and a cover plate 6<SP>1</SP> said platform and cover plate together with webs 11 constitute a stop bearing 6. Metal plates 7 and 8 together with rubber sheet 9 are bolted to webs 11 and form a resilient stop surface for normal loads. In the event of exceptional loads, after full compression of the resilient surface, the edges 14 of'the slot 13 bear on the member 4.
