Abstract
1,078,907. Tape-cable connectors. S. R. CAPSEY (International Standard Electric Corporation). April 7, 1966, No. 15563/66. Heading H2E. A tape cable 14 (Fig. 2), having spaced parallel conductor ribbons sandwiched between rupturable plastics sheets, is folded over a flat stiffening member 16 and inserted in the body 10 of a connector between the limbs of U- shaped resilient contacts 12 so that the angled forward edges of the limbs strip the outer insulation of the tape cable and wipe the conductor ribbons. Terminals 44 (Fig. 3, not shown), (e.g. pins, sockets &c.), are brazed or welded to the contacts 12 and the units located in grooves in the body 10 which also has end slots 36 to locate the member 16. The assembled connector is moisture sealed by an elastomer seal 18 squeezed against the tape 14 and body 10 by member 20, secured to the body 10 by studs (34), (Fig. 5, not shown), and nuts (80), the studs (34) also having locating pins (82) at the terminal end. Stiffening member 16 has projections 62 to locate the tape 14 and may be resilient, (e.g. polycarbonate resin), to compensate variations in tape thickness. The body 10 may be made in two halves (86), (Fig. 9, not shown), to accommodate contacts having lateral terminals (92). The connectors may be attached anywhere along the cable length to tap selected conductors (Fig. 8, not shown).
