Abstract
107,810. Givler, R. C., and Givler, M. July 11, 1916. Kinematographapparatus. -Relates to cameras of the kind which includes mechanism whereby manipulation of an operating handle causes the film to be drawn out, and positioned relatively to the lens, and the shutter to be operated, intermittently, so that a succession of pictures showing different stages in the movement of an object may be obtained, and consists in a roll-spool camera in which the take-up spool may be manually operated inclependently of the shutter mechanism so that the film may be primarily positioned for the first exposure, or, if desired, a portion of the film utilized in making exposures in rapid succession followed by single exposures. The operating handle 70, Fig. 3, drives gearing 67, Figs. 1 and 3, by means of which the film spool is rotated and the shutter actuated. A multilated gear 71 prevents movement of the film while the cam 85 acting on the lever 86 operates the shutter. The shutter, Fig. 10, comprises a mutilated disk 22 having abutments 23 - - 28 and engaging a stop 29 to limit its oscillation. An escapement 31, attached to the lever 86, Fig. 3, carries a spring 32 which acts upon the disk 22. On oscillating the escapement, the spring 32 is strained and tends to move the disk 22. which movement is restrained until the wedge 33 on the escapement is removed from under the abutment 23 when the shutter will rotate until the stop 27 comes against the stop 29, during which movement the opening 35 moves past the lens c. The take-up spool 36, Fig. 1, is rotated by the gearing 36 and also may be rotated by means of the handle 43 when the mutilated part of the gear 71 is opposite the gear wheel 77. This position is indicated by means of indexes 95, 96. If single pictures are required, the gearing is set in this position and an exposure made by a slight movement of thehandle 70. The take-up spool 36 has a slot engaged by projections 91, Fig. 5, on the gearing and is supported at its lower end by a casing 40, Fig. 4, attached by ratchet gearing to the spindle 41 which carries the haudle 43. A carrier 60 engages flats 52 on the member 40 and holds the spool in position.
