Abstract

A thermocouple has limbs respectively of nickel-chromium and of nickel-aluminium and is used with compensating leads the positive strand of which is a copper-titanium alloy containing between 0.2 and 0.8% titanium and the negative strand of which is a nickel-copper alloy containing between 14 and 20% copper. To effect deoxidation, desulphurization, or degassing the copper-titanium alloy may have added up to 0.3% manganese, up to 0.3% magnesium, up to 0.1% phosphorus, and up to 0.05% lithium. For the same purpose the nickel-copper alloy may have added up to 1% iron, up to 0.15% carbon, up to 1% manganese, up to 0.15% magnesium, up to 0.05% lithium, and between 0.05% cerium. Adequate compensation is claimed for any temperature of the reference junction between -50 DEG C. and +400 DEG C.
