Abstract
A thermocouple for service at temperatures up to 2800 DEG C. has as one component an alloy of tungsten with 0.05-38% by weight of rhenium, and as the other, tungsten. The latter may be replaced by tantalum or an alloy of tantalum and tungsten, when a characteristic curve is obtained having a steeper slope above 2100 DEG C., although the maximum operating temperature and the E.M.F. generated are both reduced. All the couples of the invention have a positive slope to the characteristic curve at all temperatures, and are unaffected by hydrogen. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 816,135.
