Abstract

1,077,331. Winding and reeling; curving; straightening. GURTLER, HEBERT & CO. Inc. Sept. 30, 1965, No. 41544/65. Heading B3E. [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for curving and straightening a pipe-line prior to winding on to and after withdrawal from a storage reel comprises pairs of rolls 41A, 41B . . . 43B interconnected by chain drives and rotated by reversible hydraulic motors 57A, 57B. The rolls which have concave faces are supported on a frame 20 movable vertically with respect to posts 19 housing pistons 33 and by a hydraulic fluid. The middle pair of rolls 42A, 42B are displaced laterally with respect to the two outer pairs of rolls, and to provide for pipes of different diameter the rolls of each pair are movable toward or away from each other by a single control for a pair of rolls or separate control for each roll. The pipe-line passes through pairs of fairlead rolls 75, 76, 77 and 78, the rolls 76, 77 being vertically adjustable.
