Abstract

1,077,122. Sampling granular material. G. E. ALSOP. Jan. 16, 1964 [Oct. 19, 1962], No. 39666/62. Heading B8N. A device for sampling granular material comprises a casing 1 having a tubular shank 3 in which a rod 7 connected to a hollow body 4 is slidable, the body and casing having apertures 12, 13 which in one position are aligned to allow entry of material into the body and, in another position, are out of alignment in order to close the body. The hollow body 4 is formed from a tube 5 connected by a collar 6 to the rod 7, the outer end of which being secured to a handle 9; the outer end of the body is closed by a tapered plug 11 to facilitate insertion into the material. In a modification- (Fig. 2), the body 24 is mounted within the casing for longitudinal movement, the tapered plug being secured to the casing. The rod 7 may be connected by extension rods joined together by screwed connections or bayonet-type joints.
