Abstract
A cast ferrous alloy of high magnetic permeability comprises:- .C.0.5 - 1.15% .Si.2.5 - 4.5% .Cr.up to 0.05% .S.up to 0.03% .P.up to 0.05% .Mn.up to 0.6% .Mg.up to 0.05% the balance, apart from impurities, being iron. Impurities referred to are:- .Ni.up to 0.5% .Cu.up to 0.5% and small amounts of Sn, Al, B and Ca. The alloy is graphitized at 1600 DEG F. air cooled to 1300 DEG F. where it is held for 5 hours and then air cooled to room temperature.
