Abstract

1,076,761. Walls &c. ARMCO STEEL COR PORATION. Aug. 17, 1964 [Aug. 19, 1963], No. 33592/64. Heading E1F. An underwater wellhead comprises a body 1, 9 enclosing tubing 23, a Christmas tree having a base 47 mounted on the body and including a passage 96 in communication with the tubing, a conduit 103 in communication with the passage and having an end portion 109 fixed to the base, a flow line 43 fixed to the body, and a coupling 62, 42 connecting the ends of the conduit and flow line. The body parts 1, 9 are connected by a remotely operated clamp 8, and the base and part 9 are connected by a remotely operated clamp 48, the part 9 enclosing a positioning sleeve 27 which aligns a bore 52 in the base with the tubing 23. The well has a second tubing 26 discharging through a second flow line 41, a master valve 90 controlling the flow through the tubings. Should a flowline be blocked and the blockage immovable a modified base (Fig. 7, not shown) having means to blank off the flow lines, an upstanding portion similar to the part 9, and additional flow lines is inserted between the base and the part 9. In a modification Fig. 10 the conduit 230 branches off the passage above the master valve and the end portion 233 is connected to the flow line. If the flow line connected to the end portion becomes blocked the master valve is closed, a valve 232 is opened, and a ball is pumped through the second flow line up an end portion 236 to be directed by deflectors 240, 241 down the end portion 233 to pass through and clear the blocked flow line.
