Abstract

1,076,457. Spectacles. VERTEX (OPTICAL) Ltd. March 1, 1966 [March 5, 1965], No. 9527/65. Heading G2J. A hinge member, Figs. 2-5 (not shown), comprising apertured elements (11, 12) spaced apart by a bridging piece (13), is secured to a thermoplastic spectacle frame by passing an electric current through the member to heat the bridging piece (13), which is then pressed into the frame in a position to receive a hinge pin. In a temple arm having a longitudinal reinforcing wire, Fig. 8 (not shown), the member may be inserted into an edge so as to straddle the wire. A tool for applying the member comprises a pair of jaws for engaging the elements (11, 12) and passing a current therethrough, carried on an insulated handle.
