Abstract
1,076,126. Cork remover. W. STREICHER. April 15, 1965 [April 28, 1964; Nov. 10, 1964; March 24, 1965], No. 16206/65. Heading B8T. A pneumatic cork extractor includes a hollow needle 17 extending from a hollow piston-rod of a manually operated piston and cylinder pump, and in operation the needle is inserted through the cork to supply pressure air to the space below it. A one-way valve comprising a rubber disc 24 located between tubular parts 11, 12 of the piston assembly allows air to flow through the assembly to the needle but prevents its return. Air is drawn into the cylinder 1 via an opening 7 and a oneway valve 6. A sealing ring 21 and an oil impregnated felt ring 25 are located around the piston between collars 18, 19 of the tubular parts. In a modification the one-way valve in the piston assembly is located at the piston end, and the felt ring is omitted. In a further embodiment the piston comprises a cup washer which obviates the need for a one-way valve at the closed end of the cylinder. The needle may be protected by a surrounding tube which is removably inserted in a groove at the end of the hollow piston-rod.
