Abstract

Novel compounds of Formula I <FORM:1076089/C2/1> in which R1 is hydrogen or halogen, or an alkyl or alkoxy radical having 1-4 carbon atoms, R2 is hydrogen, an alkyl radical having 1-4 carbon atoms or an aryl radical that may be substituted with a halogen atom, or an alkyl, alkoxy or nitro group, and R3 is -COOH, -CONH2 or -CN, and their salts with pharmaceutically acceptable acids or bases, are prepared (1) when R3 is a cyano group, by reacting a 3 - trialkylammonium - methyl - imidazo-[1,2-a]pyridine with cyanide ions in an anhydrous solvent, (2) when R3 is a carbamido group, by reacting a 3-trialkylammonium-methyl-imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine with cyanide ions in an aqueous medium, and (3) when R3 is a carboxyl group, by reacting a 3-trialkylammonium-methyl-imidazo [1,2-a]pyridine with cyanide ions in an aqueous alkaline medium. Therapeutic compositions having analgesic, anti-pyretic, anti-phlogistic, and anti-convulsant activity, which may be administered orally or parenterally, contain, as active ingredient a compound of Formula I above or a salt thereof.
