Abstract

In the scrubbing of hot dust-laden gases containing acidic or basic constituents the pH of the scrubbing liquid is controlled by injecting into the gases before they contact the scrubbing liquid an appropiate neutralising agent. Thus in the scrubbing of the gases from a steel converter powdered lime may be introduced so that the pH value of the scrubbing liquid is maintained between 6 and 8. Alternatively powdered calcium carbonate may be added to a region where it is decomposed and entrained as lime in the hot gases.
