Abstract

1,075,781. Feeding webs. PARNALL & SONS Ltd. March 25, 1965 [March 26, 1964], No. 12908/64. Heading B6B. A reciprocating clamping device 38 clamps a web 13 against an endless idler band 22 for alternate strokes to intermittently advance the web. The clamping device 38 comprises a blade of flexible rubber supported in a U- shaped member 36 pivoted at 37 to a carriage 30. A bracket 33 on the carriage co-operates with the piston-rod 34 of a fluid cylinder 35. A pair of spaced arms connected together by a rod 41 are fixed to the member 36 and project radially upwards to co-operate with a pair of spaced abutment plates 42 on the rod 34. Two nuts 43 in the rod 34 define a degree of lostmotion for the carriage 30, and this lost-motion of the carriage 30 with respect to the piston-rod 34 is used to pivot the clamping device 38 from the position shown at X to the position shown at Y.
