Abstract
1,075,573. Cutting by fusion. HANCOCK & CO. (ENGINEERS) Ltd. Feb. 25, 1965 [Feb. 27, 1964], No. 8195/64. Heading B3V. [Also in Division G3] A tracing unit, particularly for an oxygenjet flame cutting machine, comprises an electronic line follower 23, Fig. 1 (not shown), adapted to follow an outline mounted on a drum 15 rotatable at a speed proportional to that of the cutting torch over the workpiece. A flamecutting machine for ratio cutting has a main carriage 11, Fig. 2 (not shown), running along rails 12. One of its running wheels 13a drives the drum 15 through reduction gearing 17-22, Fig. 3 (not shown). A transverse carriage 14 is mounted on the main carriage 11 and carries the cutting torch. The main and transverse carriages are driven by separate motors controlled by the line follower 23. The latter is mounted on a tracing unit carriage 24 which is itself driven by a motor-operated pinion 58 meshing with rack 59 on the transverse carriage. Alternatively, the follower 23 may be stationary whilst the drum 15 is movable axially. The tracing unit and the two carriages 11, 14 may alternatively be linked electrically. In another embodiment, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), the tracing unit is separate from the oxygen cutting machine and the two are interconnected by electrical-synchro links which may include feed-back loops.
