Abstract

1,075,308. Tiltable revolving chairs. AMERICAN METAL PRODUCTS CO. Nov. 16, 1965, No. 48554/65. Heading A4J. In a chair, in which the seat 10 is tiltable about a pivot pin 13 to lift actuator rod 18 and compress return spring 25, the static tension in rod 18 is variable by screwing sleeve 21 into and out of tilt head 11. On rotating seat 10 about a vertical axis, and allowing sleeve 37 to follow this motion, screw-threaded post 31 and all parts above the base of anti-friction washer 38 are turned in unison. On preventing sleeve 37 from following this movement and on depressing button 42, so that its end 44 enters groove 35 in post 31, head 11 is screwed relatively to sleeve 21 to vary the loading of spring 25 and the tension in rod 18. On rotating sleeve 37 alone, attached nut 36 revolves about stationary post 31 which thus alters the height of the seat. A catch 45 allows the adjustable top part of the seat to be removed from the base. In other forms, a foam or solid rubber block or an elastomeric sleeve replaces spring 25 and the height adjustment may be omitted. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 994,246.
