Abstract

1,074,652. Wall panels; buildings. F. HEDLEY. Jan. 8, 1965 [Jan. 8. 1964], No. 950,64. Headings E1A and EIB. A wall panel 10, which may incorporate doors and windows, comprises facing and insulating sheets 16, 17, 18 on a wooden frame 12, 13 and has along each vertical edge a bolted-on steel channel 14 which is longer than the panel and which cooperates with a similar channel on an adjacent panel 11 to form a hollow column which engages a socket in a concrete raft, the column being subsequently filled with concrete 19 or the like. Tie bars 20 attached to the respective channels are embedded in the concrete 19. Brackets, Fig. 3 (not shown) may be welded to the channel to asist its attachment to the wooden frame. Abutting channels may be located before concreting by a rectangular ferrule (43). The adjacent edges of wall panels meeting at right angles, Fig. 2 (not shown), have the steel channels replaced by elements of L section which abut to form a further hollow column subsequently filled with concrete. A four-walled two-storey building. Fig. 4 (not shown) has each wall formed of two panels joined along their vertical edges, the steel channels and L- section elements carrying floor-supporting elements and door lintels. In modifications avoiding the use of poured concrete each pair of channels is replaced (a) by two dovetail-tongued members interconnected by a grooved intermediate member or (b) by interlocking tongue and grooved members.
