Abstract
Lightweight concrete mixes having a watercement ratio of at least 2.0 : 1 comprise a hydraulic cement, a lightweight aggregate, and, as a setting accelerator, 5-15 weight per cent (based on cement) of an aluminium sulphate, including hydrated and dehydrated aluminium sulphates and mixed sulphates such as alums. The aluminium sulphate may be incorporated into the mixture at any time during the manufacture. The cement may be Types I, II or III Portland cement, and a suitable aggregate is expanded vermiculite.
