Abstract

1,074,206. Screwdrivers. GARDNERDENVER CO. June 23, 1964 [June 24, 1963], No. 25982/64. Heading B4W. [Also in Division F2] The bit of a driving tool for use with cruciform slotted, threaded fasteners, has equally spaced driving wings which extend axially and taper towards the tip (26) and are separated by flutes (23), each driving wing (22) having a driving surface (30) formed on one face thereof and a relief (40) formed over the lower axial portion of said face so that the driving contact between the wings and the adjacent surfaces of the screw recess is limited to a region (42) adjacent the outer surface of the screw recess. The relief forms a distinct step which is uniform over the axial extent thereof. The flutes (23) are relieved (at 23<SP>1</SP>) to confine the driving to the wings. In a modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), the wings are relieved on both faces. In another modification, Fig. 11 (not shown), the relief of the driving face (75) of the wing (72) takes the form of a slightly negative drive angle (80).
