Abstract

In apparatus for the vacuum degassing of molten metal of the type in which portions of the metal are caused to pass into a vacuum vessel by the rise and fall of the latter there is also provided means for adding reactive materials, said means consisting of a pressurized reservoir connected to a lance of sufficient length to extend to below the nozzle of the vacuum chamber when the latter is in its lowered position. The reservoir and lance may be mounted on a movable carriage by means of which the lance may be withdrawn from the bath.
