Abstract

1,073,787. Door operating appliances. A. M. BUEHLER. May 24, 1965. No. 21957/65. Heading E2M. A door for garages or warehouses comprising upper and lower sections 14a, 14b hinged together is raised by cables 50 engaging the axle members of rollers 26 running in inclined tracks 22 adjacent the vertical edges of the door and in a plane extending through the central part of the longitudinal crosssectional area of the door in its raised position. The cables pass round guide pulleys and then round pulleys 40 attached to a torsion bar 38 which is surrounded by a torsion spring 44 having one end fixed to the bar 38. The upper section of the door is hinged to a point above the lintel so that the lower section, when folded, lies against the underside of the lintel as shown in Fig. 1. In a modification (Figs. 5 and 6) the counterbalancing means is a concrete block or a canister filled with lead shot. The weight is suspended by two cables-one attached to each roller 26. A casing (100) encloses the counterweight and stiffens the structure.
