Abstract
1,073,307. Injectors. M.A.N. TURBO G.m.b.H. Dec.13, 1963 [Dec. 14, 1962], No. 49327/63. Heading F1E. In a gas injector pump for feeding gaseous liquid or pulverulent material having a laval nozzle 1, Fig. 4, a mixing zone 3 downstream of the nozzle 1 and a material feed means 9 opening downstream of the nozzle end face, the feed means are so dimensioned and arranged that in the mixing zone a critical mass relationship between the propellant gas and pumped medium is temporarily exceeded by which the gas velocity at the nozzle exit is changed from supersonic to subsonic velocity and the pumped material supply is temporarily interrupted so that in the injector stream a suction phase alternates periodically with an ejection phase. In other embodiments the mixing zone axially adjoins the nozzle exit and the pumped medium enters through an annular admission chamber (4), Fig. 1 (not shown) or in modifications of this embodiment the diameter of the mixing zone is smaller or larger than the nozzle exit diameter forming steps (6), Fig. 2 (not shown). In a further modification in which the mixing zone is enlarged to form a step the pumped medium enters through an annular nozzle (8) Fig. 3 (not shown) surrounding the nozzle. In modifications of the embodiment of Fig. 4 a step is formed at the junction between the nozzle and the mixing zone or the mixing zone has a constricted cross-section downstream of the suction opening (2), Fig. 6 (not shown). In a further embodiment the annular section opening (2), Fig. 8 (not shown) adjoins a rounded portion (13) of the nozzle to form an annular lip 14.
