A container for cigarettes, or the like, comprises a folded top panel, four integral side panels made from one piece of material, and a bottom panel made from a further piece of material. The bottom has dished sides which fit inside or outside the side panels and is secured thereto, as by heat or ultrasonic sealing, adhesives or crimping During assembly one end of the packet is closed, the container is filled and then closed at the other end. Each piece of the container may be made of different materials, e.g. a foil top, board sides, plastics bottom.
