Abstract

1,073,199. Jointing by forging. P.S.C EQUIPMENT Ltd. May 24, 1966, No. 23017/66. Heading B3H. Apparatus for swaging a fitting on to a wire for use in prestressed concrete structures, comprises a casing 1 containing a swaging chamber 5 defined by segmental swaging jaws 6 with tapered external surfaces co-operating with a corresponding internal surface 9 on a hollow piston 7 which is actuated to close the jaws. The piston 7 may be double acting and supplied with pressure oil alternately through ports 20, 23. Jaws 6 which may comprise four segments are biased to open position by a spring- loaded plunger 14 having its stroke limited by a screw 17. Alternatively the piston may be single acting and returned by a spring. The swaging jaws 6 may be interchangeable and consist of more or less than four segments. The swaged fitting comprises a hollow steel bush 26, Fig. 3 (not shown), enclosed within a two-part sleeve 28, Fig. 5 (not shown), with sharp inner teeth which bite into the wire.
