Abstract

1,073,072. Tunnel-diode squegging osciltators. STANDARD KOLLSMAN INDUSTRIES Inc. Dec. 6, 1963 [Dec. 10, 1962], No. 48304/63. Heading H3T. [Also in Division H2] A tunnel diode is provided with A.C. bias which cyclically sweeps it over its negativeresistance region, and manually operated means for connecting the bias supply to the tunnel diode, this power supply comprising an induction generator with a manually operated member moving in a magnetic field. Such a circuit forms a squegging oscillator which can be used as transmitter and receiver in a system for the remote control of a television receiver as described in Specification 1,073,071. It can also be used in other telemetering and remote control applications. The oscillator circuit (Fig. 3) comprises tunnel diode 31 with resonant circuits 31 and 45 tuned to the carrier frequency (1000 Mc/s.) and modulating frequencies respectively. The induction generator is shown at 30. The modulating frequency may be 100-500 kc/s. or may be up to 1 Mc/s. The modulating frequency sweeps the tunnel diode in and out of its negative resistance region so that the carrier frequency is generated during alternative half-cycles of the modulating frequency. Several alternative modulating frequencies may be available. The carrier-frequency tuned circuit may be in the form of a series-tuned copper strip to serve as a radiator (Fig. 6, not shown).
