[Also in Division B8] In a moulding-machine which forms sheets or briquettes by the passage of powdered material such as cement, quick or slaked lime, soda ash or rouge between co-operating rollers 202, 204, vibrator units 108 attached to hopper 102 each comprise motors 134, 134<SP>1</SP> drivingly coupled together and provided with eccentrically mounted weights 138, 138<SP>1</SP> so disposed that vertical displacements are oppositely directed and horizontal displacements similarly directed. Each pair of motors 134, 134<SP>1</SP> is mounted on a plate (120), Fig. 4 (not shown), which forms one of a system of plates (120), (122), (126) and (128), the outer plates (120), (122) being resiliently mounted within apertures in grids 114, Fig. 1, which form opposite side walls of the hopper 102. The gases released by vibration of the material escape through a vent 112. The nip between rollers 202, 204 may be varied by rotation of a hand wheel 226 screw-threaded into a guide block 224. A conveyer belt 244 carries away individually moulded articles, when cavited rollers are employed, or flakes formed by breakage of a sheet against the belt when smooth rollers are employed. In a second embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), each pair of motors 134, 134<SP>1</SP> is resiliently mounted in an aperture of a side wall of the hopper and the systems of plates are supported by wires (152) suspended from a cross-bar (154). Alternative types of vibrator are mentioned, including electromagnetic vibrators. A table is given showing densities of materials before and after degassing.
