Abstract

1,072,822. Testing continuity. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORPORATION (OPERATING) Ltd. May 12, 1966 [May 13, 1965], No.20289/65. Heading G1U. A continuity tester has a pair of probes 28, 30 connected to a transistorized oscillator circuit and a battery 16 in such a way that when a low resistance is present between the probes the oscillator supply circuit is completed so that the oscillator operates. The oscillator is coupled to a neon 36 so that this condition is observable. The oscillater comprises an npn transistor 26 together with a series capacitor-inductor arrangement between the collector and base, and the supply is connected about half way along the inductor. Zener diodes 38 may be connected across the circuit to protect it in case the probes are accidentally attached to a live circuit. The whole circuit and battery is enclosed in a pen like housing with the fixed probe 30 at one end. The location of a fault may be ascertained by attaching the clip 28 at one end of a circuit and working away from it with the probe 30, until a fault condition is indicated.
