Abstract

1,072,791. Suction cleaners. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 4, 1965 [June 11, 1964], No. 24331/64. Heading A4F. [Also in Division B1] The dust collecting arrangement in a vacuum-cleaner comprises a receptacle 3 having an inlet nozzle 11 and an open top which, in use, is closed by a length of filter paper 5<SP>11</SP> which retains the dust in receptacle 3 while allowing the air to pass through to fan 2, the filter paper being supplied from a roll 5. The length of filter paper 511 is retained in a peripheral groove 13 in the receptacle 3 by a co-operating ridge in the lid 6 of the cleaner, and is supported by a section 7<SP>1</SP> of mesh material, which may be covered by fabric to form a second, safety filter. A guillotine 8 severs the section of paper 511 from the rest of the roll, either when the lid 6 is closed, or when the mesh 7<SP>1</SP> is deflected upwards on initiation of the airflow therethrough. When the receptacle 3 is full, it is removed from the housing 1 together with the detached, overlying section of paper 511 for emptying. Figs. 3A, 3B, 3C, not shown, illustrate mechanical indicators which are deflected from their normal positions when the supporting mesh 7<SP>1</SP> is deflected, as described above, and whose failure to return to their normal position on cessation of the airflow through the cleaner indicate that the receptacle 3 is full. The lid 6 has a carrying handle 9 and is held closed by latches 10. The filtered air, after passing through mesh support 7<SP>1</SP>, passes from lid 6 into fan 2 by cooperating ports (16), (17), (Fig. 2, not shown).
