Abstract

1,071,378. Shaping tubes. J. E. HJALMARSSON. Oct. 18, 1965 [Oct. 21, 1964], No. 43993/65. Heading B3E. Apparatus for continuously shaping tubes of round cross-section into tubes of angular crosssection into tubes of angular and substantially planar sides comprises a mandrel over which the tube is passed, having edge producing rollers, rotatably mounted thereon in positions to correspond to each comer of the angular cross-section, and further rollers mounted around the mandrel with their axes extending parallel to the sides of the angular cross-section to shape the side surfaces of the tube. Tubing of circular cross-section is fed over a mandrel 10 having two spaced sets of four rollers 12 engaging the interior of the tubing to form the corners of the angular cross-section to be given to the tubing. The rollers of the first set engaging the tubing are closer together diagonally than the rollers of the second set. The exterior of the tubing is engaged adjacent the second set of rollers 12 by rollers 18 which form the flat sides of the tubing.
