Abstract

1,070,941. Hook fastenings; clamps. BLOXWICH LOCK & STAMPING CO. Ltd. Jan. 1, 1965 [Jan. 16, 1964], No. 1954/64. Headings E2A and E2B. A vehicle having a cab hinged at its forward end on the vehicle chassis so that the cab can be tilted forwards, incorporates releasable fastening mechanism for securing the rear end of the cab to the chassis comprising a keeper 10 mounted on the cab, a lever 15 pivotally mounted on the chassis, a hook 13 pivotally mounted on the lever for engagement with the keeper, the disposition of the pivots of the lever and the hook being such that after engagement of the hook with the keeper movement of the lever in a fastening direction pulls the cab down towards the vehicle chassis, a spring-loaded detent 27 with which the free end portion of the lever engages when the lever is in the fully fastened position, and a key operated lock 29 for securing the detent against release except by use of the key. The hook has pegs 21, 22 to limit its angular movement relative to the lever and is connected to the latter by a tension spring 24. The lower end portion of the lever has an inclined nose 25 leading into a notch 26 adapted to snap engage with the trigger. To release the mechanism from the locking position shown the detent is turned anti-clockwise by a key and the lever is then turned clockwise manually. Initial motion of the lever raises the hook 13 out of engagement with the keeper, and further motion of the lever causes it to engage the pin 21 and so rock the hook away from the keeper to permit the cab to be tilted. In a second embodiment, not shown, the hook is U-shaped and the lever is fixed to a pivoted spindle to which an operating handle is also fixed. In each embodiment a safety hook may be provided. Two mechanisms may be provided one at each rear corner of the cab and these may be connected by a bar.
