Abstract

1,070,803. Electrostatic image developing apparatus. ING. C. OLIVETTI & C S.P.A. Aug.4, 1964 [July 17, 1963], No. 30916/64. Heading G2H. Apparatus for developing a latent electrostatic image comprises a rotating brush member 300 for brushing a mixture of magnetic carrier particles and developer powder 420 which may consist of carbon black with a thermoplastic resin powder, over the image-bearing surface 428 the mixture being held in a housing 412 which is reciprocated with respect to the brush member, and to a plurality of inclined flexible vanes 444 mounted on a rod 440 which is held stationary between side frames 448 whilst sliding in housing 412. The vanes act to circulate the developer mixture. Member (300) Fig. 3 (not shown), comprises a series of iron discs (468) on driven shaft (298) the discs being bent to a wavy form so that as the brush rotates, the magnetic bristles (427) formed between the brush and magnet polepiece (492) are oscillated on the surface of the image-bearing surface. Vanes (444) strike a rod (434) to cause repeated alignment of movable hopper (432) with hole (422) whereby the flow of powder into housing (412) is metered. Pins (464) on shaft (298) angularly spaced by 180‹ alternatively strike triangular cams (460), Fig. 3, on the outside of housing (412) to produce the oscillatory motion. The discs (468) may be replaced by a pattern of holes in a hollow iron cylinder (482) as in Fig. 5 (not shown), or by a wire screen.
