Abstract

107,073. Beaver, C. J., and Claremont, E. A. June 21, 1916. Cables and compound conductors. - Electric cables comprising two or more conductors a', a<2>, a<3>, insulated with impregnated paper b and an overall layer of like paper insulation b<1>, the paper insulations being in contact with one another, have the interstices d, d<1> filled with a homogeneous mass of vulcanized bitumen or other plastic insulating compound. For introducing the compound, a machine is used which comprises a number of known parts suitably adapted. In making a cable of the form shown in Fig. 1, a long strip of the required cross-section d is fed through the central guide l, Fig. 3, of the laying-up machine, the outer interstices d<1> being filled with shaped strips formed by the dies m<1>, m<2>, m<3> through which the compound is extruded by the feed-rollers n.
