A machine for securing two preformed metal panels together to form a unitary hollow structure such as a door comprises a table (10), Fig. 1 (not shown), on which the panels P 1 , P 2 are laid in superimposed relationship with an upstanding locking flange of one panel F 2 encompassing the edge of the other, a flange engaging and bending member 15 resiliently supported above the table and displaceable laterally toward the flange to engage and partially bend same and means for then lowering the member 15 in an arcuate path to complete the bending of the flange. A number of members 15 are mounted for vertical movement on a plurality of rods 36, the upper ends of which carry supporting springs 44 and are coupled to plates 42 slidably secured for lateral movement relative to the members by screws 45, the lower ends of the rods being coupled by pivoted arms to pneumatic cylinder assemblies (D2), (D2 3 ). The members 15 are laterally displaced by U-shaped brackets (23), Fig. 1, coupled thereto and pivotally mounted to the table and actuated by pneumatic cylinder assemblies (D1). In an embodiment the springs 44 may be replaced by a plurality of springs disposed between the members 15 and the top side of the table. The flange is initially bent to approximately 45 degrees prior to lowering the member. It is preferred to simultaneously bend the oppositely disposed flanges by members 15 and then the third flange by member (15A). The machine is sequence controlled after initial manual actuation by a timed pneumatic circuit, Fig. 8 (not shown).
