In an account book, the leaves 6 are hinged at 10 within the covers 1, 2 about an axis transverse to the lengthwise direction of the columns on the leaves, and a heading strip for the columns is provided at 7 on the cover 1, or a flyleaf, which is adapted to project beyond one edge of the leaves and extend transversely adjacent to the head of the columns when the book is opened flat. There may be two or more series of leaves, arranged side-by-side, on a common, hinge 10. The covers 1, 2 are hinged at 3, 4, respectively, to a spine 5, and the hinge 10 is arranged on the cover 2 just below the hinge 4; thus, with the book closed, the covers will not project substantially beyond the leaves 6, but with the book open, the cover 1 will extend at 7 beyond the leaves. The hinge for the leaves may coincide with the centre of the spine 5 (Figs. 1-3), and the two covers project beyond the leaves in the closed and open positions. The heading strip at 7 serves all the leaves, and the totals can be entered on a folded-over portion of the bottom of a leaf, and this portion can then be folded back, when the leaf is turned upwardly, to expose the totals. A leaf of perforated heading strips can be incorporated in the book. and this can be gummed.
