A device for dispensing measured quantities of granular material comprises at least one pair of pivotally mounted, open-sided containers 2a, 2b arranged on each side of a common closure wall 4 and a stop member 9a, 9b, associated with each container and adapted, upon relative motion, to abut against the container in an end position such that the container is pivoted away from the wall whilst the other container is urged into sealing engagement with the wall to form a closed measuring chamber. The containers are mounted on shaft 5 and normally held against the wall 4 (also on the shaft) by springs 8 mounted on a frame 6, having a knifeedged bar 7 engaging in notches formed in the containers. In operation, with the device in the position shown, material flows from a hopper 1 into the container 2a until it stops when the level of the material reaches the outlet la in the hopper. Upon rotation of the shaft, the container abuts the stop 9a so that the container is lifted away from the wall 4 and thereby allows the material to fall through an outlet funnel 10. The capacity of the containers may be varied by raising or lowering the hopper or the containers in relation to the top edge of the wall. In order to enable the outlet end la of the hopper, when in a low position, to clear the top edge of the wall, a cam (14, Fig. 3) is secured to the frame 6 so that as the containers move the cam co-operates with a roller (15) on the hopper thereby raising the latter.
