Abstract

1,068,878. Settling tanks. KRALOVOPOLSKA STROJIRNA ZAVODY CHEMICKYCH ZARIZENI NARODNI PODNIK. Aug. 28, 1964 [Aug. 29, 1963], No. 35319/64. Heading B1D. Liquid containing suspended solids passes successively through three settling tanks 3, 5, 12, entering each tank at a low level by distributors 2, 17, 22 and flowing upwards therein, clean liquid being removed from each tank by overflows 8, 18, 23 while a partly cleaned fraction of liquid is collected by outlets 6, 16 at intermediate heights in tanks 3,5 and conveyed to the distributors 17, 22 of tanks 5, 12. The progressively reduced upward velocities permit successively finer solids to deposit in each tank, the solids in the form of sludge being drained of and conveyed by lines 9, 20, 27 to an unspecified filter 11 for further treatment. Flow rates are regulated by various valves 10, 13, 14, 21, 24, 26 to achieve desired purity in outflowing liquid. In Fig. 2 (not shown) sludge from tank 3 is delivered into tank 5 by distributors (28) located above the partly cleaned liquid distributors 17, whereby this sludge falls through the rising liquid being washed thereby and capturing finer solids therefrom. In Fig. 3 (not shown) an auxilliary upward flowing washing liquid is delivered by distributors (29) into tanks 5. 12. Settling may be improved by adding chemical coagulants.
