Abstract

1,068,723. Welding beam conveyers for furnaces. LUDWIG RIEDHAMMER G.m.b.H. June 1, 1965 [June 16, 1964], No. 23194/65. Heading F4B. A walking beam conveyer for transporting ceramics through a tunnel furnace comprises a series of longitudinal bar sections made up of a group of transversely alternate displaceable ceramic sections 4 supported by downwardly depending integral end feet 5 resting on respective displaceable transverse cross-members 9, interposed by groups of similar, fixed, sections 3 resting on fixed cross-members 6. The crossmembers 9 are connected at each end to respective tubular ceramic pillars 11 extending downwardly through elongate apertures 15 in the furnace floor 8, wherein are also disposed transverse electric heating elements 18, Fig. 2 (not shown), controllable independently of roof heating elements 17. The pillars 11 connect with longitudinal frame members 12 forming part of the drive mechanism. In a modification, the bar section 3 may have a separate drive mechanism linked with that of the bars 4 so that as one group moves forwardly with the load, the other is returning to its initial position, and vice versa. The bars may be continuous instead of in sections, while in both embodiments integral upstanding ridges (16) are provided on the outermost bars to prevent lateral movement of the treated articles during progression through the furnace, while bars; supports and cross-members may be made of heat-resisting steel.
