Abstract

1,068,636. Snow ploughs; street sweeping. E. H. FISHER. Aug. 27, 1964 [Sept. 6, 1963; April 29, 1964], No. 35139/64. Heading E1G. A machine for clearing snow or sweeping refuse has a transverse impeller 37 with helically arranged flexible blades 41 for moving the snow, with the assistance of an axial air flow from a fan 48 and/or 49, to a flat bladed impeller 58 which delivers to the entry of a combined axial and radial flow fan 60 discharging through a duct 69. The impellers are driven from a prime-mover 27 through a countershaft 30 and chain gearing and the impeller shafts are carried on a frame structure 26 adopted for connection at 24, 25 to the frontloader arms of a tractor. The impeller 37, 38 is partially enclosed by a shround 56 having an adjustable forward portion 57. To increase the exit velocity of the snow from the duct 69, the inner wall of the casing of fan 60 projetcs into the path of flexible fan blades. In other embodiments the fan is mounted coaxially with the impeller 37 either at the centre or at one end and may comprise the flat blade impeller 58 discharging direct to the duct 69 or an axial-radial fan 60. Additional sweeping means comprising flexible strips 124 (Fig. 15) hinged at 126 and oscillated against a spring 133 by an arm 129 contacting an arm 130 on the hinge 126; the arm 129 being driven with the impeller 37, may be provided to ensure sweeping over the whole area. Alternatively the sweeping means may be a two bladed rotor driven from the main impeller shaft. Oil may be injected into the fan casing and/or discharge duct to prevent the discharging material sticking within the fan.
