Abstract

1,068,160. Electrophotographic materials. KALLE A.G. Dec. 12, 1963 [Dec. 18, 1962], No. 49178/63. Heading H1K. The photoconductive layer of an electrophotographic material consists of or contains one or more metal resinates. A metal resinate is obtained by reacting a metal salt (such as a chloride, bromide, fluoride, borate, sulphate, or phosphate) with a resin acid. Suitable metals include Na, K, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Al, Sn, Pb, Sb, Bi, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Ag, Zn, Cd, Cr, Mo, and Mn. Two or more metal salts may be reacted with a single resin acid. Specified acids are:-from conifers-pimaric and abietic, and from copal-agathenedioic, illuric, podocarpic, elemic, sumaresinolic and siaresinolic. Support materials include paper (preferably pre-treated against solvent penetration), metallized foils, metal foils and laminates. Optional additives for the photoconductive layers include (a) dyestuff sensitizers such as Crystal Violet, Brilliant Green, Rhodamine B Extra, Eosin S, Rose Bengal, Patent Blue AE, Methyl Violet, and Methylene Blue; (b) activators such as diethylaminobenzoic acid, ethylpropylaminobenzoic acid, dichlorobenzoic acid, dichloroacetic acid, chloroaniline, and 1: 4-toluquinone, (c) non- photo-conductive pigments such as titanium dioxide, alumina, and zinc oxide; (d) stabilizers such as zinc chloride, ferric chloride, and naphthalene - 1: 3: 6 - trisulphonic acid; and (e) various resinous binders of which many examples are listed.
