Abstract

Flame-resistant objects with an electric surface- or flow-resistivity of 103 to 1010 ohm or ohm x cm. are prepared by shaping by conventional methods while keeping shearing forces to a minimum, compositions comprising a vinyl halide polymer, one or more plasticizers, optionally including anti-static plasticizers in proportions of 75 to 25 to 55 to 45 parts by weight, electrically conductive carbon black having a specific surface area of at least 100 m2/g., and, if desired, up to 10% by weight of antimony trioxide. The polymer may be a paste-forming polyvinyl chloride, or a copolymer of vinyl chloride with a conjugated diolefin, vinyl ester, vinyl ether, olefin or acrylic compound. Flame-hindering additives such as phosphoric acid esters and chlorinated paraffins may also be present. The compositions may be formed into air ducts, foils, plates, wind gates and water sieves. In an example foils are produced from compositions comprising polyvinyl chloride, dioctyl phthalate, carbon black, antimony trioxide, barium/cadmium laurate and a fatty acid ester lubricant.
