Abstract
A method for producing insulating coatings on electrical conductors comprises covering the conductors with a solution of a hardenable polyesterimide derived from aromatic polycarboxylic acids with at least one pair of carboxyl groups in ortho-position to each other, di-and/or tri-hydric alcohols and diamines, if desired with the addition of hardening catalysts, and heating the coated conductors to a temperature of the order of 400 DEG C., wherein the polyesterimides contain, for every 10 equivalents of polycarboxylic acid residues, 5 to 16 residues of di-and/or trihydric alcohol residues and 5.5 to 0.5 equivalents of primary diamine, amino acid or hydroxyamine residues, and wherein for every 10 difunctional residues there are 4 to 20 preferably 6 to 5 polyfunctional radicals. The polyesterimides may also contain chemically bonded titanium or zirconium atoms. The examples disclose the coating of copper wire on a horizontal wire coating machine.
